Personal requirements while trekking to mount Kilimanjaro

  • Sleeping bag (covering at least 3 seasons)
  • Comfortable hiking boots, light walking trainers thongs (flip – flops)
  • Wooden walking stick / ski pole
  • Sunglasses or snow, goggles, sun hat or woolen hat
  • Warm scarf, gloves, and thermal underwear
  • Sweaters / jumpers, / raincoat, water and windproof pants, jackets, t-shirt, several pairs of socks
  • Long sleeved shirt with collar, small towel, toiletries and toilet paper
  • Sunscreen and lip salve
  • First aid kit and insect repellent

Day 1: NAIROBI-ARUSHA

Depart from Nairobi at 8.00 am to Arusha by road using a shuttle bus. Stop at Namanga (Kenya-Tanzania boarder) for entry permit (VISA) and have packed lunch there then proceed to Arusha and spend the night in Arusha at a budget hotel.

Day 2: ARSHA-MANDARA HUT

Depart from Arusha to the Mt Kilimanjaro park gate at7:30 Am by road after having breakfast at the hotel and start trekking from the gate proceeding to the mountain. Have a walk of approximately 5 hours to Mandara Hut which is about 1,000 meters and have prepared lunch and then spend the night in one of the Banda or Huts.

Day 3: MANDARA HUT-HOROMBO HUT

Have breakfast and depart from Mandara Hut at 7:00 Am on foot and trek for approximately 6-7 hours and spend at Horombo hut. Have prepared lunch by our chef. Client could engage in cooking just for fun if interested and still spend the night at Horombo Hut. A trek will also allow you to see baboons, bush pigs, mongooses, elephants and a number of other animals.

Day 4: HORMBO HUT-KIBO HUT

Depart from Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut in the morning which will take about 7 hours and trek for another a 1,000 meters. Then break for lunch at Kibo Hut and spend the night there as you rest and get set to get at the SUMMIT (Uhuru peak).

Day 5: KIBO HUT-SUMMIT-HOROMBO HUT

Have breakfast at Kibo Hut and depart to the peak of Mt Kilimanjaro which is the summit (UHURU PEAK) and it is going to take about 5 hours from Kibo Hut to the Mountain peak. This is the most difficult trek but ‘we gon` make it’. At the peak there’s a lake located at the edge of the mountain inside a high crater rim known as the Chala Crater Lake. The lake covers an area of 1.6 square miles and is one of the park’s most famous sights because of its incredible waters, which range in color. Enjoy the view for a while then descend from the mountain to Horombo Hut for about 6 hours and spend the night there.

Day 6: HOROMBO HUT-ARUSHA

Have breakfast at Horombo Hut then descend from the place back to the park gate for about 5 hours and drive back to Arusha and have lunch at a budget hotel and have some town drive for about 2 hours then get back to the hotel and have dinner at the hotel then spend the night in the same hotel.

Day 7: ARUSHA-NAIROBI

Have breakfast at the hotel and depart from the hotel back to Nairobi on road (shuttle bus). Have lunch enroute
